Monotropa
WebsiteFacebookInstagramMonotropa’s concrete Crudo table deliberately reveals its internal form, testifying to the material’s previous life. The simple and functional character of the object triumphs over ethics and aesthetics. Sanded sides with a coloured texture divide the table into different structural zones. They thus enhance the graphic expression and overall visual experience of an otherwise very minimalist piece.
Product and interior designer Klára Janypková is behind the Monotropa brand. She works on the collections of glass products together with designer and glass artist Tomáš Kučera. Janypková graduated in design at the Czech Technical University. Kučera studies in the glass studio at the UMPRUM in Prague and runs his own glass workshop near Světlá nad Sázavou. Both are united by their love for applied art and glass. They transform this love into their own collections of glass products, lighting, furniture and other objects presented under the Monotropa brand.
The phenomenon of the human body is a timeless motif. The designers have translated it into the form of a low glass table. That is why it is called Torso. The simple cylindrical shape is deformed by an external force, giving rise to a unique surface with twisted folds and interesting light reflections. Each piece is a hand-blown and completely original result of the work of Czech glassmakers. Torso can function in an interior as a full-fledged storage or coffee table, as well as an impressive work of art that combines visual strength with the fragility of the material.
Artist's exhibitions
On Chair – Balancing on the Edge of Comfort
The main motif of the exhibition is the presentation of the author’s design chairs and armchairs, which visitors can sit on (use) during the exhibition and test their function and aesthetics directly in the interior of the gallery.
Among the exhibits on display you can find a chair by Jan Plecháč, Eva Eisler, Filip Kramply, David Šesták or Kristýna Mikolášková. THE DESIGN is a space that aims to exhibit contemporary and applied art side by side in one place. The exhibition will therefore also include sculptures by Michal Janiga and textile works by Lucie Kralík Rosická.
