Ondřej Čižmář
As a designer, he enjoys pushing the boundaries of art and design and challenging conventional norms. He likes to try unusual methods and venture into uncharted waters. The results are often new connections or unconventional meanings that provoke thought, spark conversation and often controversy.
Designer Ondřej Čižmář was inspired by the bark beetle and disappearing folkloric ornaments in his Kyrre stool. The practical piece of furniture from IKEA was originally designed primarily as a uniform, easy to make, cheap and timeless solution to a problem in the home. It was in mass production, however, that Čižmář saw its diminishing relevance and decided to redesign the stool in his own way. His hand-decorated workmanship is a visual manifesto that juxtaposes standardized and proprietary manufacturing and design practices.
