THE DESIGN is a designer shop with a gallery and an espresso bar in the Old Town, the very heart of Prague. The concept for THE DESIGN was created by three women Olga Rühle, Míla Umanec Bulířová and Romana Drdová. They have left their unique mark on the space and filled it with an authentic selection of contemporary art and design.

The curated selection includes not just modern designer glass, ceramics, jewellery and fashion accessories, but also collector´s items. As well as renowned Czech designers like Lukáš Novák, Jiří Pelcl and studio Qubus, at THE DESIGN you will also find porcelain dishware by David Síla, vases by Daniela Vrabcová Chodilová, conceptual works in glass by Karolína Vorlíková, and items by the Viennese Ursula Futura brand. You also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase original ceramics from the Plody Erlanu collection by David Střeleček, and works by Jiří Žežula of Replica Ceramics and Markéta VuTru at our shop.

THE DESIGN gallery exhibits a unique selections of works by contemporary Czech and foreign artists four times a year. The visual and gallery concept is curated by artist Romana Drdová. She presents works by Barbora Lepší, Tomáš Absolon, Lenka Glisníková and Tadeáš Podradský in the current exhibition. All the exhibited works can be purchased from us, or visitors can simply enjoy a cup of excellent coffee surrounded by these exquisite works of art. Our concept THE DESIGN shop was established on the premises of the former ‘U Červeného orla’ pharmacy. The renovation combined the spirit of the pharmacy with modern design and contemporary conceptual art. Previous pharmacy laboratory was replaced with a coffee bar, the office became a sales counter, the goods delivery entrance became the gallery entrance. The cargo lift has been retained as it is a magical part of the history of this location. All this has resulted in the perfect location for its purpose.

The concept shop is on the ground floor and cellar of this unique space, with an entrance from Havelská Street. It covers 120 square metres. The shop stretches across the historic building to combine with an exhibition gallery and its own café. It is also accessible from the quiet V Kotcích Street, where you can enjoy various types of coffee from the Czech Coffee Source roasting-house, fresh desserts and delicious chocolate.

Our goal is to create a place on Havelská Street to welcome casual passers-by, slow-tourism fans and residents of Prague.
