Bořek Šípek
He lived, studied and worked mainly in Germany and the Netherlands.
In Amsterdam he founded the studio Aletrego and participated in a number of projects in architecture and product design.
He has worked with brands such as Alessi, Driade, Lasvit, Leitner, Rosenthal, Steltman and Vitra, among others. He has designed the Museum of Modern Art in Den Bosch, the Ginza department store in Tokyo and Karl Lagerfeld boutiques from Paris to Beirut.
In addition to working for major brands, private clients and institutions, Šípek has also worked on limited production.
Before emigrating, he studied furniture construction and design. After all, he was a cabinetmaker at the beginning of his move abroad. Furniture was one of his great passions. He approached it with the same playfulness, passion and desire to break boundaries as he did architecture or glass.
From the 1990s he was back in the Czech Republic, running his own studio and working as the chief architect of Prague Castle. He also taught at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague, the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, was Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University in Liberec and was involved in the founding of the Ajeto glassworks in Lindava, where he produced glass according to his own designs.
