Michal Janiga
WebsiteFacebookInstagramSculptor Michal Janiga works with a technologically demanding material – stone. He works it into a simplified minimalist morphology, while his work is still on a monumental scale.
For him, the material is a repository carrying layered information, primarily as an idea of shape.
Between 2011 and 2017 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, School of Figurative Sculpture and Medals (prof. Jan Hendrych, later doc. Vojtěch Míča).
In 2016, he completed an internship at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, Scuola di Scultura in Italy (prof. Francesco Cremoni, prof. Pier Giorgio Balocchi). He lives and works in Prague and alternately in the village of Pružina in the Strážov Hills in Slovakia, where he has his roots.
Artist's exhibitions
On Chair – Balancing on the Edge of Comfort
The main motif of the exhibition is the presentation of the author’s design chairs and armchairs, which visitors can sit on (use) during the exhibition and test their function and aesthetics directly in the interior of the gallery.
Among the exhibits on display you can find a chair by Jan Plecháč, Eva Eisler, Filip Kramply, David Šesták or Kristýna Mikolášková. THE DESIGN is a space that aims to exhibit contemporary and applied art side by side in one place. The exhibition will therefore also include sculptures by Michal Janiga and textile works by Lucie Kralík Rosická.
