QUBUS
QUBUS was founded by the artist, sculptor and designer Jakub Berdych Karpelis (1971) in 2002. He invited Maxim Velčovský (1976), freshly graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, to work with him, and in that same year the two designers opened the Qubus showroom, which they ran together until 2009. QUBUS was the first Czech design shop to sell its own products. Its luxury collector’s items and everyday products are celebrated for their highly original design, and with their ironic and unconventional humour they redraw the boundaries of personal taste.
Since 2010 Jakub Berdych Karpelis has continued as the sole art director and chief designer of the brand. Besides conceptual and product design, QUBUS also works on projects for interiors and exhibitions and has become both holder and designer of a number of prestigious awards in various fields of culture, art and design. QUBUS also serves as a platform for creative endeavours by Jakub Berdych Karpelis in partnership with other artists and designers. A whole range of now iconic products, collections and artworks have been created under the label. Products are characterised by their use of traditional materials such as glass and porcelain, and all are made in local workshops in collaboration with master craftsmen and women.
QUBUS has been creating provocative beauty, art and design for the last 23 years.
