Library Ab Ovo

The library is part of the Ab Ovo collection, which was presented to the public at the Designblok 2023 design exhibition at the Trade Fair Palace.

The Ab Ovo collection is made up of materials in their natural form, such as solid oak, iron and glass. The elements may have been created at an undefined time. We are all tempted to touch the carbonised solid wood, which, thanks to its finish, seems to have existed on the earth’s surface for thousands of years.

The library building is made from a combination of carbonised solid oak and rolled raw iron sheet.

The burnt wooden objects, called stones, are supported by quite exact thin metal shelves. The porous and clearly undefined solid stones are thus a counterbalance to the smooth and cold iron. But the materials support each other in their raw form and the resulting object looks very compact.

The bookcase and other furniture elements of the Ab Ovo collection were designed by RAP art director Michaela Vrbková, who blends artistic to sculptural approaches with exotic furniture standards in her designs.

The objects thus serve as fully functional furniture and object solitaires.

Rap applies her years of experience in furniture construction, combining different materials and technological know-how in the treatment of final surfaces such as carbonised solid wood to the realisation of furniture elements.

The resulting Rap collection of Ab Ovo furniture pieces is a dominant solitaire, but equally gives your most precious artefacts the opportunity to stand out as an altar.
